This article is too assist the user understanding of the components and make up of a vertical blind.

Vertical louvre blinds consist of three basic elements, a rigid headrail along, louvre carriers [a plastic mechanical device which contains a small gear to control the movement rotation of the slats] each has a  hook to hang the fabric slats, and requires one per slat.

Lancashire Rose Blinds uses self aligning truck / carriers which uses a thin piece of metal to keep a consitent spacing and direction of the slats by simply opening their blind to its full extent and then rotating the slat from one extent to another to reset the truck carriers.

With self alighning  trucks / carriers  it assists on the bunching of the slats together or at one end.  They also ensure the distance between each hooks is less than the width of the slat / louvres.  When the blind is closed and the slats set to the closed position these truck ensure each louvre slats overlaps.

Vertical blind headrails are made of extruded aluminium, the normal exterior finish usually is a square ribbed faced, but a new design which provides a sleek and more modern curved finish is now becoming a very popular.

We use a thicker and more expensive headrail which has been powder coated on the outside and on the inside as it produces smoother movement of the trucks and also stop twisting especically when used in long  and wide blinds or when inconjunction with heavier fabrics.

Our vertical blinds headrail when used in a bay window can split the vertical blind in to sections to follow the contour of the window and use a headrail which has a pelmet slot so a coordinated piece of fabric the same as the slats can be used as an infill to join the pieces of headrail together to produce a more asethetic finish.

Louvre blinds fitted with the usual control chains and cords can feature additional child safety devices.

Louvres / slats are normally weighted at the bottom and connected to each other by chains that are fitted near the bottom of the louvres.

Louvres / slats can be made in a variety of materials. Woven, knitted or non-woven fabrics are used as the base to which specialist coatings are applied to endow the fabric with additional performance features.  Most slats are coated with a plastic protective coating which can be reactivated and welded at the base of the fabrics to hold the weights and at the top to hold the plastic hanger to attach to the truck / carriers.

Coating applied top slat provideds features include finishes such as solar protective coatings for improved solar and optical performance, easy cleaning and hygenic coatings and flame retardant coatings. Totally opaque fabrics are available in a variety of  blackout purposes.

Although such fabrics can be completely opaque it should be noted that vertical blinds only offer a dim out option due to the light which may emit from inbetween the slats or where gaps around the edge and base due to the gap required to stop the slats dragging on cills.

They are also available in washable fabrics but we wouldnt suggest this as inconsistent results are usually achieved and it has been tested when the fabric is designed as whole product and due to the diversity different results may happen.

We Provide a full range vertical blinds slats which all come in packs of five to allow you to easily and cheaply whilst updating your decor.

Louvres / slats are generally supplied in 127mm (5?), 89mm (3½) wide, in todays modern houses a smaller window cill is usually installed where the 89mm slat is used and the industry is reflecting this in the reduced range of fabric demanded in 127mm fabrics.
